Road Maintenance

The Public Works Department provides the required maintenance of all municipal infrastructure including roads and sidewalks, sanitary sewers, water mains, back lanes, parking lots, ditches, bridges and culverts, street lights and buildings.

Road maintenance practices must meet the Minimum maintenance standards for municipal highways outlined in O.Reg 239/02. Said standards are established based on the vehicular traffic on our roads.

Municipal roads are also classified in one of the following three categories:

  1. local roads, which are subject to the provincial standards mentioned above;

  2. summer roads;

  3. unopened road allowances.

Winter maintenance

After significant snowfalls, roadways are plowed on a priority basis. The same applies to sanding and snow removal activities.

In order to ensure the safety of all road users and to perform snow removal work in a timely and cost-efficient manner, people are not allowed to place or deposit snow on roadways, or to move the snow from one side of the road to the other, or to place it in an area that obstructs visibility, etc. To learn more, please consult the snow removal by-law.
